Graduation card for March’s SU Demo Blog Hop

Welcome to the March’s Stampin” UP! Demo Blog Hop. The blog is published every last Tuesday of the month, and if you like fun folds, well, you are in for a treat! There’s a lineup below to make it easy for you to hop along and see all of the great inspiration from other creative demonstrators.

Many of you know, one of my daughters is graduating in May and she has asked me to make her invitations! Since it’s really just family, I figured we can go all out with this beautiful fun fold called triple floating diamond card. Her school colors are white and…wait for it… GOLD! If you have been here before, you are probably aware how much I love gold… did I go overboard?

Measurements: Remember that I include all layers together, so it is less confusing.

  • Card base is 2 pieces of basic white measuring 4″ x 8″ scored at 2″, 4″ and 6″
  • Front:
    • 2 pieces of basic white measuring 2-7/8″ x 2-7/8″ or 2-3/4″ x 2-3/4″
    • 2 pieces of gold foil measuring 2-3/4″ x 2-3/4″ or 2-5/8″ x 2-5/8″
    • 2 pieces of DSP measuring 2-5/8″ x 2-5/8″ or 2-1/2″ x 2-1/2″. I used the Gold celebration acetate for one side and created my DSP using gold embossing powder.
    • NOTE: When I was researching the card, there were some crafters that cut the biggest diamond pieces at 2-3/4″ x 2-3/4″ and some others at 2-7/8″ x 2-7/8. I found out that the 2-7/8″ fits better when adding it to the middle diamond, it really covers it better. But when closing the card, it’s a tiny bit bigger and the pointy ends tend to fold. I just cut the pointy ends, which is not ideal, but since this was my first prototype, I was not really concerned. I think it maybe a good idea to try the 2-3/4″ diamond before totally committing to the bigger one.
  • Inside:
    • 4 pieces of gold foil measuring 3-7/8″ x 1-7/8″
    • 4 pieces of DSP measuring 3-3/4″ x 1-3/4′
    • 1 piece of basic white measuring 2-7/8″ x 2/8″
    • 1 piece gold foil measuring 2-3/4″ x 2-3/4″

Basic Instructions:

  • Grab the 2 pieces measuring 8′ x 4″ and score on the 8″ side at 2″, 4″, and 6″
  • Turn your card base and put the 4″ side towards the top of the trimmer, align at 2″ and mark with a pencil, on the top and the bottom.
  • Cut diagonally between the pencil mark with the top of the score line next to edge.
  • Now, cut diagonally between the mark and the bottom of the same score line.
  • Repeat the process for the other side, as well as the other card base.
  • You will end with something like figure #1
  • Fold the triangle edge valley. All of them.
  • Put the card bases next to each other, with the triangle edges folded. You will end with something like figure #2
  • Bring one of the diamond pieces (Add layers first) and adhere to the middle diamond, formed but the triangles. This is whats going to keep the cards bases together.
  • Fold the left over score lines valley as well.
  • Add all the layers to all the pieces. We have 2 other diamond pieces and 4 rectangular pieces as well.
  • Add the rectangular pieces, and the diamonds last.
  • Decorate away!
