Theater Card -

Who doesn’t love to receive a card in the mail that gives you a surprise? I know I would love one…hint hint.

I was looking at Pinterest the other day and saw this card. Of course I had to find out how to make it. I looked at a video tutorial from Karens Kardzz, that you can access here. I decided to try the card for a get well soon card I needed to send to a friend, and liked it so much I made a video tutorial too.

Isn’t this card amazing? To my surprise, it is not complicated to make.

For this card you will need:

4 pieces of cardstock in Pool Party measuring 4-1/4″ x 5-1/2″.
2 pieces of designer series paper 4-1/8″ x 5-3/8″. I used the Sunshine and Rainbows Designer Series Paper that was part of our Sale-A-Bration which ended yesterday. 🙁 But of course this card is super flexible and you can use any of our gorgeous patterned papers.

From the 4 pieces of cardstock, take one and glue the designer series paper, measuring 4-1/8″ x 5-3/8″. This will be our front or the card. Once adhered, we will create the “window”. I used one of my rectangle dies to create it. But if you don’t have one, a good tip is to decide the width you want your edge to be, for example, 3/4″ and just cut all around with your trimmer. I also used the smallest of the circle dies to create the area to pull the “curtains” open.
Now, take 2 of the other pieces of cardstock, which we are going to call the curtains, place the short side against the trimmer, and cut 1/4″, you will be cutting along the 5-1/2″ side. Save those 2 left over pieces, as we will need them in our next step.
Score the left over pieces at 7/8″ and 4-7/8″. I went the old fashioned way and place the thin piece on top of the front panel (step 1), leaving a piece of cardstock on each side and mark it with a pen. After scoring where the mark is, we will fold and glue to the back of the front side… OMG this sounds so confusing! Please check the video tutorial. it makes more sense if you see it. Botton line, with these 2 pieces we are going to create a “bridge” where the curtains are going to go through.
Score the both curtains (step 2) at 2-3/4″ and at 1-3/8″ and fold mountain, both score lines.
Take the piece of patterned paper measuring 3-7/8″ x 5-3/8″. This piece will go on top of the curtains. the whole idea on my card was to create a whole sky, so it is easier if we decorate the piece and then cut it in half which will be at 2-3/4″. I hope that makes sense. Or you can cut the piece in half and decorate accordingly. 🙂 Adhere the pieces to the “curtains”. If there is a scene going on in your card, like mine, make sure you align the pieces correctly.
Let’s work with the back now. Get the piece that measures 4-1/8″ x 5-3/8″ and attach it to the last piece of cardstock. This is the area where you are going to get the surprise for you recipient. In my case is the rainbow and the Happy Birthday sentiment. I would create the decoration on the back before attaching the curtains. Do watch the video... so much easier to explain.
