Welcome crafty friends! Today’s card has a special place in my heart. I really like interactive cards and little scenes and to be completely honest, I love coloring! I can’t draw anything, ok, maybe the sun or stick figures…That’s why I have loved stamping! Being able to stamp a beautiful image and see it come to life when you color it, it’s so satisfying. That is why I also love alcohol blenders… they make me look like a professional, when I am really not.
I made this card using the Stellar Birthday stamp set. Let’s talk about this set for a minute. I know there are other companies that have ‘space sets”, but these are the reasons why I really love this one. First of all, Kudos to Stampin’Up for including a girl in the set. How wonderful it is to push girls toward studying science and being astronauts? Also, I was so happy to see the dog… I am definitely a pet person and this made my heart so happy!
This is not a card that needs a template, which is unusual for me LOL, but you will find some really good tricks and tips in here. You can find the video-tutorial here.
- You will need:
- 1 piece of basic black cardstock measuring 4-1/4″ x 11″, scored at 5-1/2′
- 5 pieces of heavy white cardstock measuring 5-1/4 x 3-7/8″. I used my Stitched Rectangle dies (unfortunately, unavailable right now), using the largest die.
- 2 pieces of heavy white cardstock measuring 3/4″ x 4-3/4″
- Scraps of white cardstock to create the planets, using different sizes of small circle dies.
- You will also need 2 pieces of white cardstock 1/2″ 1-1/2″
- Scraps of silver cardstock, for the stars
- Stampin’ Up blending brushes
- Inks:
- for the “space” Magenta Madness, Daffodil Delight, Pear Pizzazz and Night of Navy
- For the “moon” Crumb Cake, Smokey Slate, Mossy Meadow and Gray Granite
- I used white, black, silver and gold paint from my stash to speckle the card. I also used Early Expresso and Crumb Cake ink. Just ink one of your blocks, spray some water and… use a painting brush to tap it all over your background.
- Basic Border dies
- Small magnets. I got this at Amazon, but use whatever you have. The magnet needs to be strong, though.
Instructions:
Get 2 of the 5-1/4″ x 3-7/8″ pieces and the 1″ x 4-3/4″. Using your blending brushes, make some streaks of Magenta Madness, Daffodil Delight, Pear Pizzazz, wherever you want. There’s not right or wrong way to do this. It should look like sort of like this.
Afterwards, get your Night of Navy, and using the blending brush, blend all over the piece of cardstock, until all of it is covered. You will see some hints of green, yellow and magenta. Using a Stampin’ Spritzer filled with water, spray your Cardstock, dry afterwards with a towel or paper towel. After that, dilute some white paint and using a brush tap all over your piece. I used black and silver paint as well. It will look like this.
I used a small circle die to cut an opening in on of the pieces. This piece will be the front of the card. The other piece will go inside the card. The strip of cardstock that measures, with be our pull out lever. We will have to give these a few to get dried.
Now, let’s get the other 3 rectangles, which will create our “moon” Following the same process for the previous background, we are going to use our blending brushes and make streaks of Crumb Cake, Smokey Slate, Mossy Meadow and Gray Granite. Same as before, there is no right or wrong way to do this. The whole idea is to create a surface that looks like the moon. After I blended the inks to where I felt satisfied, I followed the same process as before, diluting paint in white and gold, and tap the brush over the surface. I also smeared some Early Expresso and Crumb Cake on a Stampin’ Block to add some extra browns. These will also need to dry. Once dried, I took 2 of the panels to make the pop up mechanism. I created the “moon” hills using the round border from the Basic Borders Dies; I just placed it a little lopsided to create the slopes. It is important to be aware that we are going to need at least 1″ at the bottom to attach the hill to the base of the card. Score one of the pieces 1″ from the bottom edge and the other one 1/2″. Just play with these 2 piece until you are happy with the placement. Align the piece with the 1/2″ flap with the other piece and glue together. I used Stampin seal +, but you can use Tear and Tape or glue. Now , attach the two panels to the card base. Make sure you go all the way tot eh score line in the card base. The next steps to attache the hill to the card, which we will do by using 2 pieces of cardstock 1/2″ 1-1/2″ they can be a little longer…1-3/4″ if you want them the main point is that the middle must be 1/2″. The flaps will be attached to the slope in order to make them sturdy. I hope that makes sense,
The pull tab card is a bit simpler. Your will need to put some foam tape all over the front panel. As you can see in the video, I used the side pieces from the black dimensional to adhere all around the cards edges. After that, I took one of my magnets and attached it to one of the ends of the strip of paper we are using as a pull tab. (Don’t forget to glue to strips together to make the pull tab sturdier) In this picture you can see the pull tab. Once well glued, we can attached the other magnet to the image on top, the rocket in our case. Now the magnets will create a strong force and you will be able to move the image back and forth.
