Stampin'Up

Swing card

Welcome back crafty friends. Today we are going to create a swing card. The card has a centre panel that swings, hence the name. There is an image on the front of the panel…

and when you open it, the panel swing around/flip over showing a new panel, where you can include another image or a sentiment.

I have built templates for a 6″ x 6″ card and 4-1/4″ x 5-1/2″. I know 6×6 cards are hard to mail, but they definitely give a bigger area to play with, which is definitely part of the fun!

For this card I used several Stampin’Up! Products from both the Mini and the Annual Catalogs . The Designer Series Paper is called Symbols of Fortune, and it has some really beautiful designs. If you are like me and like gold… will love it. I also used 2 different stamp sets and dies. The Hydrangea Haven stamp and dies set can be found on the Annual Catalog. I have to confess I got them a while ago, but had not used them and now I am in love with it. Not only the flowers are gorgeous but the sentiments included are cute and empowering. I also used, what we know to be one of my favorite stamp set from the new catalog: In the moment… the truth is that I just can’t get all the new sets… LOL. Seriously, I love this set.

Instructions:

For this card, you will need

I created a video tutorial for your convenience. As usual, here is the template. I am a visual person, so instructions are much easier for me if a I have a picture.

See tutorial here

Take the Smokey Slate piece of cardstock and place it horizontally on your trimmer. Put you paper alighted at the 1-1/2″ mark and cut from the 1″ mark to the 4-1/2″ mark. (We are going to leave 1″ from the upper and bottom edge). Now move your paper to the 2-3/4″ mark and score from the 1″ mark up and form eh 4-1/2″ down. Move your paper again to the 4″ mark and perform the same scores as before. Lastly, move to the 5-1/2″ inch mark and cut again from 1″ to 4-1/2″. Makes sense?

Now place your card vertically, which means the 5-1/2″ side will be against the trimmer edge. Place it at the 1″ mark and we will cut from the 1-1/2″ inch mark to the 2-3/4″, In other words, from the first cut to the score line. Keeping the paper at the 1″ mark, move the cutting piece in your trimmer to the 5-1/2″ mark and cut back to the score line. Does this make sense? Tip: As I don’t have great eyesight, I tend to not go all the way, I rather use my scissors to cut a little than cut more than I needed. Now, flip the card over and do the same cuts.

Look at the 6″x6″ card. I used a previous Sale-A-Bration free paper form last year’s event. I really love the colors and animals in it. Even if it was mostly a Christmas set, it is definitely very versatile and can be used for many other occasions.

Here is the template for the card. I just want to clarify that the vertical cuts go from 1″ to 4-1/2″

Two pieces of 2-3/8″ x 5-7/8 for the sides’s matting
one piece of 5-3/8″ x 1-1/8″
two pieces of 7/8″ x 1-1/8″
