Stampin'Up

Muti-Panel Accordion Fold Card

Talking about a WOW effect, this card will leave you speechless. I was looking in Pinterest for some inspiration and came across this card. Needlessly to say, I felt the urge to make it and set up to look for instruction. I found several YouTube channels with examples but the one I liked the most was a channel called 14 cards and crafts.

I used for this card the Expressions in Ink Designer Series paper, sadly currently unavailable. But, Stampin’Up has some seriously gorgeous Designer Series Paper , including the new papers from the new Mini Catalog, you definitely want to go and check them out.

For the front of the card I used the In the Moment stamp set. Yes, I know…I can’t help it, this stamp set just really touches my heart. Not only I love coloring, but all images include an activity I love: reading, drinking coffee and drinking wine.

Instructions:

I usually start by talking about the front of the card, but we are going to focus on the inside first.

For this card, you will need

  • Cardstock
    • one piece 8-1/2″ x 5-1/2″, score at 1/2″ and 4″.
    • one piece 8″ x 5-1/2″, score at 4″. For this two pieces I used Shaded Spruce
    • one piece measuring 3″ x 8-1/2″, scored at 2-3/4″ and 5-1/2″.
    • one piece 3″ x 9″, scored at 2-3/4″, 5-1/2″ and 8-1/2″. In this case I used our basic white Cardstock
    • two pieces of 2-7/8″ x 2-5/8″ of Polished Pink
    • two pieces of 2-7/8″ x 2-5/8 of Gold Foil Sheets
    • two pieces of 2-7/8″ x 2-7/8″ of Gold Foil Sheets
  • Designer Series Paper
    • two pieces for the front and back of the card measuring 3-7/8″ x 5-3/8″.
    • four pieces to frame the “windows”.
    • 4 pieces 2-3/4″ x 2-1/2″.
    • two pieces of 2-3/4″ x 2-3/4″

Let’s start with the 2 big pieces of cardstock. After scoring them, you will use a rectangular die to create the “windows”. I used the Scalloped Contour Dies, which I centered in each panel and run it through my embossing machine. If you rather not use dies, you can create the rectangle using your trimmer. Just calculate about 1″ from the edge, each side. You will end with 2 piece that will look like this. On each piece, at the 4″ score mark fold valley and the 1/2″ flap, fold mountain.

The next step is to align the ‘flap” on the second piece with the first piece and then glue them together.

Now, we will work with the 3″ x 8-1/2″ and the 3″ x 9″. Remember the first one is scored at 2-3/4″ and 5-1/2″, and the second one at 2-3/4″, 5-1/2″ and 8-1/2″. Once scored you will have another 1/2″ flap at the end of the 9″ x 3″ piece. As we did before, alight the “flap” with the other piece of cardstock and glue together. Fold valley, mountain, valley, mountain, valley. This is the piece that will go inside the windows.

Now is fun time! I decorated the inside of the card first before putting it together, including stamping it. I started with making the frames for my window, using the size up die from Scalloped Contour Dies. Don’t throw away the leftover pieces, as you can see in the picture, I used them for the front and the back. Next step is decorating the 3″ strip. I just played with the beautiful designer series paper and the stamps. Once ready, it’s time to put this card together. Insert the strip of cardstock, through the first window, starting behind the bigger piece and center it. Does this make sense? Let me know if it doesn’t. Bottom, line when you are done “weaving” the strip through the windows, both ends of the strip will be behind the big piece. To attach this you will need to put some glue or adhesive to both ends of the strip, in the front area.

The front and back of the card will need to be covered, as they both have gaps. Just have fun decorating. I used some DSP to cover them and then created some interest by adding a green rectangle and one of the leftover pieces from die cutting the frames. On top of it I put my image.

I am planning to upload a video to my YouTube channel, it. is much easier to follow the instructions that way.

In the meantime, go have fun with our new collections.
